Rosie Taylor cycles 300 miles in the month of July to raise funds for SMART!
Rosie Taylor is an ex-member of Suffolk Youth Music. She played the French Horn in Suffolk Youth Wind Band in 1994 and Suffolk Youth Orchestra from 1995 to 1999. Following her time in SYM, Rosie went onto achieve a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Southamption University. Deciding that teaching was to be her career, Rosie then undertook a Secondary PGCE and has taught ever since. She now holds the post of Director of Music at Wycliffe Prep School in Gloucestershire. Alongside her work and her family, Rosie is an avid cyclist, regularly enjoying exploring Gloucestrshire adn the surrounding area on two wheels. This year, Rosie set herself the challenge of completing the RideLondon event, an annual festival of cycling in the capital. As part of this, Rosie was due to cycle 100 miles and had generously agreed to cycle on behalf of Suffolk Music and Arts Alumni Trust (SMART) with all donations contributing to the charity's work.
Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event has been cancelled. But this is not going to stop our intrepid cyclist! Rosie has set herself a new challenge: she will be cycling 300 miles in the month of July with all donations going to SMART. SMART's mission is to relieve the needs of young people from Suffolk who have needs by reason of youth, in particular, but not exclusively, by the provision of grants to access or participate in art in its widest form, including music. The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted on SMART's ability to raise funds to support the giving of grants. We had several events planned that would have contributed to our income but, sadly, these have been cancelled. As a result, our income has been less than anticipated.
The donations received for Rosie's challenge will all contribute to SMART's ability to help provide grants to the young people of Suffolk so they can access high quality music and arts education and opportunities.
We will be updating the website and our social media channels with regular updates of Rosie's progress, including some pictures of the beautiful locations Rosie visits during her challenge! You can donate on our Just Giving page here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/RosieRides2020
